The new 19-bed Health Centre built by the Government in Seenu atoll Hulhumeedhoo was officially inaugurated on Saturday.
The Centre was officially opened by Health Minister Ilyas Ibrahim at the inauguration ceremony. The Addu Atoll Chief Saud Abdulla, senior officials from the Hithadhoo Regional Hospital, and staff from the Hulhumeedhoo Health Centre participated in the inauguration ceremony.
During his speech the Health Minister said the new Health Centre will alleviate some of the problems faced by patients, such as the lack of space and beds.
The Rf6 million project was undertaken by Maris Constructions and was supposed to have been completed within nine months time. However, due to several delays the building was finally handed over after 15 months. The company said that the delays were due to some problems with the construction site and difficulties in procuring material needed for the project.
The Government decided to build the Health Centre in Hulhumeedhoo because residents from both islands were facing numerous problems due to the lack of space at the 10-bed Health Centre which had previously catered to patients in the atoll.
